The Centre for Forensic Odontology at the University of Peradeniya stands as a pioneering institution, dedicated to advancing forensic dental expertise in Sri Lanka. Despite significant global progress, this specialized field remains underrepresented locally, with limited integration into the dental curriculum and isolated research efforts. Our Centre aims to bridge this gap through comprehensive training, cutting-edge research, and international collaboration. Supported by the Faculty of Dental Sciences and in partnership with international institutions, we provide critical services including age and sex determination, bite mark analysis, and disaster victim identification. By fostering interdisciplinary learning and nurturing the next generation of forensic experts, we are enhancing the role of forensic odontology in the justice system, improving disaster response capabilities, and contributing to scientific innovation.
To be a leading center of excellence in forensic odontology, recognized nationally and internationally for advancing the field through innovative research, comprehensive education, and multidisciplinary collaboration, ultimately enhancing the dignity of individuals and the pursuit of justice in Sri Lanka.
The Centre for Forensic Odontology at the Faculty of Dental Sciences is committed to advancing human identification through specialized education, innovative research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and community outreach, ensuring the dignified return of remains, promoting scientific excellence, and enhancing forensic dental expertise locally and globally.
