Location
Department of Oral Pathology is situated in the 3rd floor of the "B" building of the Faculty of Dental Sciences.
Pathologists
Four academic staff members contributing to the service function:
- Dr WAMUL Abeyasinghe – (Head/Dept of Oral Pathology
Lecturer)
- Prof P.R Jayasooriya – (BDS, PhD, MD (Oral Path))
In addition, there are two senior house officers, four technical officers and four Supporting staff members who contribute to the service function.
Available services
The Department of Oral Pathology is a specialized center providing histopathology reporting service for biopsies from oral maxillofacial region with approximately 2500-2700 accessions per year received from Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and Dental Surgeons working in government and private hospitals throughout the country.
Services provided by the department include:
- Tissue based diagnostic service for oral and maxillofacial biopsies
- Reporting service for fine needle aspiration biopsies/smears
- Reporting on the marginal clearance of malignancies during using fresh/frozen sections.
Available facilities
Two service laboratories have facilities for advanced diagnostic methods including immunohistochemical, direct immunofluorascent techniques and frozen sections.
Service charges
Free of charge:
Diagnostic services are provided free of charge for biopsies received from the government sector.
Private biopsies: are charged Rs 1500 each.
