Information for Elective Studentship
The Faculty of Dental Sciences offers clinical electives in various disciplines for dental
students from overseas universities/Dental Schools for periods ranging from one to six weeks. However
extensions
could be allowed on request.
Clinical electives are offered in the following disciplines
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Oral Medicine
Periodontics
Restorative Dentistry
Prosthetic Dentistry
Pediatric Dentistry
Orthodontics
Oral Pathology
The Coordinator, Division for Research & International Affairs is responsible for arranging the elective programme. There is no formal teaching programme but you could participate in all clinical activities, teaching rounds, ward rounds, case conferences and lectures that are conducted by the different departments of the faculty. But you are not allowed to provide clinical care to patients.

Application Process
To be eligible to apply for a clinical elective, you should have completed the Basic Sciences course and
commenced clinical work. Applications are considered in the light of your experience as an undergraduate, the
proposed area of study, and the ability of the Faculty to accept you for the chosen period.
The completed application with a certified copy of the transcripts in English, a brief curriculum vitae and a
letter from the Dean/Academic Advisor of your Faculty confirming your registration as a dental student and
granting permission to engage in an elective should be sent to the Dean/Faculty of Dental Sciences, University
of Peradeniya at least three months before the date of the intended visit.
You are advised not to correspond with the Heads of Departments of the faculty regarding your
elective.
Following the review of your application, you will receive a letter of acceptance as an elective student of
the faculty from the Dean/Faculty of Dental Sciences. You are kindly requested to bring this letter when you
come for registration.
You will have to report to the Dean/Faculty of Dental Sciences for registration before commencing the
programme. You are required to produce the letter issued by the Dean confirming your acceptance as an elective
student. Following payment of the prescribed fees to the Shroff/ Faculty of Dental Sciences your will be
registered as an elective student of the faculty
Elective students will have to bear financial costs including the cost of travel, living expenses and accommodation during their stay in Sri Lanka.
ACCOMODATION
University –on-campus accommodation is not available for elective students though suitable places in the near
vicinity of the faculty could be arranged on prior notice.

It is mandatory for clinical students to wear a white clinical coat in the clinics. You will have to bring your own white clinical coat.
CERTIFICATE
A certificate confirming completion of the elective programme could be provided on request.
