The Faculty of Dental Sciences, University of Peradeniya, conducts a structured Student Mentoring Programme to support the academic, professional, and personal development of students throughout their undergraduate journey. The programme provides students with opportunities to interact with designated academic mentors who offer guidance, encouragement, and support in addressing academic challenges and other concerns related to university life.
Through regular mentoring interactions, students are encouraged to identify and reflect on their strengths, areas for improvement, and individual learning needs, and to develop effective study and learning strategies. The programme also supports students in improving their academic performance, strengthening their professional and interpersonal skills, and making informed decisions regarding their academic and career development.
Mentoring discussions are conducted in a confidential and supportive environment, enabling students to discuss academic, personal, and other concerns openly and seek appropriate guidance. Information shared during mentoring sessions is treated with due confidentiality.
The programme aims to foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, strengthen student–teacher relationships, promote student wellbeing and engagement, and facilitate the successful progression of students towards becoming competent, compassionate, and responsible dental professionals.
