The Career Guidance Programme for the 2018/2019 Batch of Dental Students was successfully held on Monday, 5th January 2026, organized by the Students Welfare and Advisory Committee (SWAC) and the Career Guidance Committee (CCGC) of the Faculty of Dental Sciences, University of Peradeniya.
The programme commenced with welcome and opening remarks by Prof. B. M. H. S. K. Banneheka, Dean of the Faculty of Dental Sciences, who highlighted the importance of informed career planning and professional responsibility in dentistry.
Programme Highlights
The programme featured a series of insightful sessions that offered diverse perspectives on the dental profession:
• Ethics & Self-Reflection
Dr. Santhushya Fernando inaugurated the programme with the session “Atmadarpana – The Mirror of Ethics,” emphasizing that true clinical excellence must always be grounded in integrity and ethical practice.
• Service in Uniform
Colonel Dr. Pubudu C. Perera shared valuable insights into career opportunities within the Sri Lanka Tri-Forces, highlighting a unique pathway of service, discipline, and professional specialization.
• The Private Sector
Dr. Alston Goonewardane provided a practical roadmap for transitioning into a successful career as a General Dental Practitioner, sharing real-world experiences and guidance.
• Global Horizons
Mr. Dinesh Prenarathna discussed postgraduate opportunities abroad, offering clarity on international career pathways and future prospects.
• Professional Growth
Prof. Dileep De Silva, Director of the Career Guidance Unit, concluded the formal sessions with an inspiring address on lifelong learning and continuous career development
. A Heartfelt Celebration
Beyond the academic sessions, the day concluded with a Staff Felicitation Ceremony organized by the 2018/2019 batch, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the mentors and teachers who guided them throughout their academic journey at the University of Peradeniya.
