Who Can Apply

To accept an application for ethics review, at least one investigator on the study must meet one of the criteria below, and the research must fall within one of the project types the committee considers.

Eligible Investigators

A member of the academic staff of the University of Peradeniya.

An undergraduate or postgraduate student of any recognised institution.

A researcher conducting a research project related to oral health.
Research Types Considered

Oral health or biomedical research involving human participants, their specimens, or their data.

Healthcare systems research, including health policy.

Animal research studying questions relevant to human health.

If the committee feels a research project is beyond its expertise, the project will be returned to the researcher.

Complete the application form and send it, together with the relevant documents, by email.

Documents Checklist
  1. Duly completed application form, signed by the Principal Investigator.
  2. Checklist of contents.
  3. Research proposal — as a Word document, and as a PDF with investigator names removed.
  4. Information sheets, consent forms, and assent forms, where necessary in all three languages, as Word and PDF documents. Sinhala and Tamil translations must be submitted as PDF copies.
  5. A second set of information sheets, consent forms, and assent forms without investigator names, for the reviewers.
  6. Questionnaire forms, where necessary in all three languages.
  7. Data collection forms, if applicable.
  8. A short, up-to-date curriculum vitae for each investigator, including members of the ERC or its subcommittees.

 

Meeting Schedule

The ERC meets on the third Tuesday of every month, except April and December. Submit at least two weeks before the next meeting to be placed on that month’s agenda.

 

Before You Submit

Incomplete applications, or those missing required documents, will not be accepted.

Application Processing Fees

LKR 2,500
Administration fee charged to applicants outside the Faculty of Dental Sciences, University of Peradeniya. The payment slip must be forwarded with the application.
Option 1 — Pay in Person

Pay at the Shroff counter, Faculty of Dental Sciences, University of Peradeniya, using the applicant’s name.

Option 2 — Bank Transfer

Credit the payment to the account below and forward the slip, clearly stating the study name and the applicant’s name.
