Faculty of Dental Sciences Welcomes the 2025/2026 Batch of Dental Students

The Faculty of Dental Sciences, University of Peradeniya, warmly welcomed 100 new entrants of the 2025/2026 batch at a ceremony held on 5 October 2026 at the K. Bambaradeniya Auditorium.

The ceremony was graced by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, Prof. W. M. T. Madhujith, and the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. R. W. Pallegama. Deans of other Faculties of the University, academic staff of the Faculty of Dental Sciences, administrative and non-academic staff of the University, and parents of the new students were also present.

Welcoming the new entrants, the Dean of the Faculty of Dental Sciences, Prof. Shyama Banneheka, highlighted the proud history and evolution of dental education in Sri Lanka and the Faculty’s longstanding contribution to the development of the dental profession. He encouraged the students to make the best use of the opportunities available to them at the University while upholding the academic, professional and ethical values expected of a dental graduate.

Addressing the gathering, Vice Chancellor Prof. W. M. T. Madhujith highlighted the importance and value of the dental profession and the wide range of opportunities available to dental graduates. He encouraged the new students to approach their university education with commitment and determination and to develop themselves as competent professionals who can contribute meaningfully to society.

The programme also included an address by Dr. Chandima Weerasekara, Chairperson of the Student Welfare and Advisory Committee (SWAC), and the President of the Dental Faculty Students’ Union.

Adding colour and vibrancy to the occasion, students of the 2024/2025 batch presented a series of cultural performances and entertainment items, showcasing their creativity, enthusiasm and spirit of fellowship.

Following the inaugural session, an inspirational motivational session was conducted by Prof. Chalinda Beneragama, providing the new students with encouragement and guidance as they embark on their academic journey.

A special interactive session was also conducted for parents, providing information on the academic programme, student welfare initiatives and support systems available to students. The importance of maintaining regular communication with their children and providing continued support throughout their university life was also emphasized.

The Faculty of Dental Sciences extends its warmest wishes to the newest members of its community.
