Ongoing Research Projects

  • Teledentistry; This is commonly practiced in general medicine for patient care. Our interest is to promote usage of virtual consultation as a process of screening to avoid over burdening of tertiary care centers. This may be conveniently utilized to promote oral health awareness and prevention of diseases as well. The current research is to introduce and assess the feasibility of using teledentistry to manage oral health related conditions in children.
  • Occult metastasis of Oral squamous cell carcinoma : A group of specialists in Oral and maxillofacial surgery and Oral Pathology are conducting a systematic review and meta analysis of existing literature on occult metastasis of Oral squamous cell carcinoma. The aim is to provide an evidence based guideline for the management of N0 neck in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma.
  • Hypodontia : aiming to assess the patterns and distribution of developmentally missing teeth in children. Traumatic Dental Injuries: evaluating the knowledge and management aspects of avulsed teeth by Dental undergraduates and Dental surgeons in Sri Lanka.

Research Enrolment and Opportunities

I am keen on collaborating with both national and international level researchers to formulate better research projects. Even though I have mentioned a few topics of interest I would not hesitate to venture into novel streams. I believe that multidisciplinary approach could always unearth new resolutions. I am pondering on finding avenues to build academic relations with relevant specialists so as to initiate productive discussions and develop new projects in the future.
