The welcome ceremony of the new entrants to the Faculty of Dental Sciences, University of Peradeniya was held at the K. Bamberadeniya Auditorium, Faculty of Dental Sciences on 07th November 2018, under the patronage of Professor Upul B. Dissanayake, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya.
Dr. J.A.V.P Jayasinghe, Dean Faculty of Dental Sciences welcomed the gathering. Professor Upul B. Dissanayake, Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Lashan Jayathilaka, President, Dental Faculty Student Union and Professor B.M.H.S.K. Banneheke, the Chairman, Student Welfare & Advisory Committee also addressed the gathering. Seventy six undergraduate students were enrolled for the 2017/18 academic year and their parents were also present in the occasion.

Formal opening of the Dental E learning Laboratory was held on Wedenesday the 21st of Novemebr 2018 in the presence of the vice chancellor Prof U. B Dissanayake and other dignitaries of the UOP as well as the students and members of the academic and non academic staff members of the Faculty of Dental Sciences. The chief guest of the event was Prof D.Y. D. Samarawickrama whose enormous contribution was a key factor for the present success of the DELU. The E learning laboratory was declared open by Dr Ms D.Y.D.Samarawickrama and Prof U. B Dissanayake.
At this event, Prof D. Y. D. Samarawickrema was felicitated for his continuous support towards the Faculty. Speaking at the event, the vice chancellor emphasized the importance of e-learning for modern day education with special reference for inclusion of e –learning as a component in quality assurance of the degree programmes by the UGC. Prof Samarawickrama offered valuable advice especially to the students on maximum utilization of the e-learning resources available to achieve their educational goals. The event was concluded by inviting both students and staff to obtain maximum benefit of the resources available in the e-learning laboratory. .

Clinical induction for the 4th semester dental students was held on 1st of November 2018, at the Bambaradeniya Memorial auditorium, with the Participation of Dean, Dr. Vajira Jayasinghe, and the staff members of the faculty of Dental Sciences. Co-coordinator Under Graduate Unit (UGU) Prof. Aruni Tilakaratne welcomed the gathering. Dean/FDS, emphasized the conduct of Dental Students during their clinical training while improving their soft skills. Guest speaker Emeritus professor/FDS, UOP N.A.de. S. Amarathunga delivered a speech on the topic of “Professionalism and Ethical conduct for a clinical students”. Vote of thanks delivered by Prof. A.K.S.Arambawatta, co-coordinator UGU.

28 copies of Dental Text Books and 4 British Dental Journals were donated by 1978/1979 Dental Batch. These books were handed over to Dr.Vajira Jayasinghe, Dean, Faculty of Dental Sciences on 11th September 2018 by Dr. Rajagopal, Maxillo-facial Surgeon from UK.

Workshop organized by the Faculty Research & Higher Degrees Committee for academic staff members and postgraduate students was held on 22.05.2018 from 9.00am - 12.30pm in the Board Room of the Faculty. Resource persons were Prof. Vajira Weerasinghe, the Dean Faculty of Medicine, UoP, Prof. W.M. Tilakaratne, Dean, Faculty of Dental Sciences, and Prof. R.W. Pallegama, Professor in Physiology, Department of Basic Sciences. They presented on the topics of “Understanding and dealing with grant review/ journal review panel comments”, “Write a wining grant” and “Research Design and Statistics”, respectively. The workshop was well attended by both academic staff of the faculty and postgraduate students.

Prof. H. R. D. Peiris and Prof. A. K. S. Arambawatta of Department of Basic Sciences delivered invited lectures on “Anthropology of Human Teeth” and “Tooth Development and Structure”, respectively at the Bio-archaeology seminar organised by the Department of Archaeology, Faculty of Arts, University of Peradeniya in collaboration with the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Mount Royal University, Canada. This seminar was organised as a part of Sri Lanka Bio-Cultural Anthropology Field School, MRU. Rest of the resource persons were Prof. R. M. M. Chandraratne, Head, Department of Archaeology, UoP, Prof. Samanti Kulatilake, and Prof. Tom Buchanan, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Mount Royal University Canada. Academic staff members of Department of Archaeology, UoP, undergraduate and postgraduate students from University of Peradeniya and Mount Royal University, Canada were the participants.

Final Degree Examination for BDS- Nov-Dec 2017 and March 2018 - Pass List

Awareness Programme for plantation Welfare officers about prevention & early detection of Oral cancer was carried out on the 25th of April 2018 for 28 Estate Welfare Officers and Child Development Officers . They were from 20 Tea Estates and Divisions of Estates each working among at least 500 tea plantation families.
We feel these participants having completed their education up to GCE O’level and trained as Estate Welfare Officers are able to create awareness and help the plantation population to arrive early for treatment for oral cancer.
In addition, they are in a position to educate the younger generation against the trend of using various tobacco and arecanut products. .

3rd Sri Lanka-Japan Macroscopic Anatomy Workshop was held on 19th to 22nd February 2018 at the Division of Anatomy, Department of Basic Sciences. Six Japanese macroscopic Anatomy experts conducted the workshop and thirty clinicians and PG students participated.

Dissanayaka, the Vice Chancellor, University of Peradeniya, Deans of all faculties, academic and non academic staff members of the faculty and students.

NOSFERATU 2018 the variety entertainment show organised by the 2016/2017 batch of new dental undergraduate students at the Prof.K. Bambaradeniya auditorium on 29th January 2018 at 3.00pm with the participation of the Dean, Faculty of Dental Sciences, academic and non academic staff members and students.

Department of Oral and maxillo facial surgery was able to organised a nurses training programme on “suturing techniques” with help of Ethicon – J&J , Sunshine Healthcare Lanka Ltd on 9th January at the CPC lecture hall in faculty of Dental Sciences.. Nurses from all the clinical departments, operation theatre, ward, ICU ,minor operation theatre and oral and Maxillofacial clinic was participated in the programme.

A workshop on challenges in designing a good research proposal and research activities related to CROC for the academic staff members was held on 05th January 2018 at the board room. Prof. Saman Warnakulasooriya was the resource person and this workshop was organised by Faculty Research & Higher Degrees Committee (FRHDC) and Centre for Research in Oral Cancer (CROC).
